Historical Information
The congregation of the Central Kings (Dundas) United Baptist Church was started in the mid-nineteenth century and has been served by two buildings over time (2021). The first structure was positioned just to the right, on the lawn, further up the driveway and closer to the road from the church built in 1991. The architectural style of this first building was most likely in the Gothic Revival style or Classical in style, common styles for Baptist Churches in the 1800’s. Both the current pews and the guestbook pulpit (visible in photos 6-8) are from the original building. Often, one can tell the architectural style and embellishments a building had from examining the artifacts such as pulpits and pews that once were part of a building.
The church building completed in 1991, was started in 1980 and took over ten years to finalize due to insufficient funds. This building is rather plain and atypical of its time in terms of style. It is in the split entry style, containing the main sanctuary on the upper level and a basement recreational gathering room on the bottom level. Inside there has been an attempt to merge the new and the old styles together, and lightly stained wood, like that on the pews can be seen in the new (1991) pulpit, trim, communion table and cross at the back.
The outside of the building is white vinyl siding, with a brown steel roof. A small saddleback steeple was placed over top of where the interior stage is. There are eight white vinyl windows on either side of the structure.
The first pastor to lead the congregation in the 1991 building, was Kelly Holt.
