Historical Information
The Baptist work in Cherryfield begain in 1880 when George T. Shaw conducted a survey on behalf of First Baptist Church. A mission house was erected in 1888. Farmers supplied the logs for lumber, First Baptist provided the pews and organ, and the people of Lewisville donated the lamps.
By January 1894, the deacons of First Baptist Church were holding regular Sunday evening services in the mission house. In 1903, Rev. Ira M. Baird was called to First Baptist to be the assistant and to minister in Cherryield and Lewisville.
In 1905, when Lewisville organized as a separate congregation, the 104 members of the new church asked that the Cherryfield property be included in the transfer. Cherryfield chose a deacon and trustee and was joined in a pastoral charge with Lewisville. For many years the church building was shared on alternateSundays with the United Church.
Cherryfield called its own pastor in 1987 and has evolved over the years to reflect the growth of the Moncton population to the north.
