Historical Information
Rev. P.R. Foster led the St. Mary's congregation from 1886 to 1888 and saw 53 people united with the church. Additionally, Foster led to the meeting house at Plympton opening on March 25, 1888. As of 1978, the principal church of this field was at Barton, where those at Plympton held their membership. Plympton and North Range were considered preaching stations of Barton. There was a time when the people of Plympton held their membership at Barton; but since 1969, they have been considered their own organization. Rev. Frank Innis, a retired Baptist minister, and his wife Alice moved to a home in Barton and took an active leadership role in the Plympton church. In January 1980, he was called to serve as pastor of the Plympton UBC. Under his leadership a new church structure was built for this congregation on the French Road in Plympton, and in 1981 they separated from the St. Mary’s Bay Pastorate to become an autonomous congregation.
