Historical Information

Before worshipping in a meeting house of their own, the Baptists of North Range worshipped and counted their membership with the congregation at St. Mary's Bay at Barton. Before the formal organization of the St. Mary's Bay Church, the Baptists of the area formed a part of the Sissiboo Church, which would later become the church at Weymouth. In 1843, a meeting was held at the Sissiboo Church to complete the final arrangements of the official organization of the St. Mary's Bay Church at Barton. In 1876, the congregation at North Range decided to construct their own structure. The dedication service was held in 1877. For 93 years this church would have been designated as a preaching station of the St. Mary's Church, and it would have simply been referred to as the meeting house. In 1969 the North Range United Baptist Church received recognition as such and was welcomed as a member of the United Baptist Convention of the Atlantic Provinces in 1970.
