Historical Information

In 1897 a Union Church was constructed in the community of Wine Harbour in order to serve the Baptists, Anglicans, and Presbyterians in the region. This same year, the Wine Harbour United Baptist Church congregation was formed.

This church was typical for its time in terms of size and style of churches used by Baptist congregations in Atlantic Canada. It was constructed with hints of Gothic Revival architectural embellishments, evident in the use of three gothic revival windows on either side of the building, above the main entrance, and along the tower. Like many churches used by Baptist congregations during this time, the building featured a three-bay facade on the gable end, with the tower centrally placed and jutting out from the main part of the building.

Each of the eave sides of the building featured three gothic pointed windows, with hooded eyebrow trim boards. Another striking feature of this building was the ornate crown that adorned the top of the tower. Initially this building was covered in cedar shakes and painted white, and later on it was covered with white vinyl siding.

The church was demolished in 2022, after years of being vacant and neglected.
