Historical Information

People from three smaller churches (Hildegarde, Lutes Mountain & Gorge) amalgamated in 1974, creating the Hillside Baptist Church. In February 1974 under the leadership of its founding pastor, Phil Stairs, Hillside opened its doors for the first time. One of the most significant projects the church undertook, based on their 2020 vision, was the construction of a new modern auditorium that opened in March 2016.

This church is typical for its time, in the mid-century, modern style. Buildings during this time are often characterized by red brick on the exterior facades, and a low to medium-pitched roof. There are very little architectural detailings on the exterior of the structure. One of the most eye-catching features of the main body of the building is the centrally placed white cross on the gable-end. Behind it is a darker colored brick. Along each side of the church there are three white rectangular vinyl windows.

The most eye-catching feature of this building is the auditorium added in 2016, located on the side of the main structure. This addition now contains the main entrance to the building on the first (basement) level. Along each side are white vinyl, straight pointed windows, with rectangular ones directly below them.
