Historical Information

New Beginnings Ministries was officially founded Easter Sunday, April 12, 1998, when 75 people attended worship in the home of Rev. Glenn & Kathy Gray.  September 24, 1998, marked the first baptism, held at Regal Road United Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Frank Guinta, Jr.  Starting with 38 members, by December 31, 1998, the church’s total membership was 74 active members.  On April 24, 1999, New Beginnings was received into the Halifax Baptist Association, wherein Pastor Gray served as Moderator for a two-year term. Until 2003 NBM made its home at Ross Road Elementary School.

In November 2003, NBM purchased land to construct a modern facility at 26 Cherry Brook Rd, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. With the generous support of its members, convention, association, and well-wishers, funding was secured to build its multipurpose sanctuary in March 2005. NBM members entered the doors of their new facility at 26 Cherry Brook Road on Sunday, October 8, 2006.

This church is typical for its time and is one of the examples in Dartmouth of a church that is more than just a place that is used on Sundays. This church marks a transitional phase in early twenty-first century Atlantic Baptist church design from a building that is solely meant for Sunday gatherings to a venue space that is meant to be used for different events throughout the week. This facility is a wooden frame building with modern red brick and vinyl siding on the exterior. These materials pay homage to the materials used to construct the church’s predecessors. The interior of the building is typical for its time in terms of style, layout, and design. The sanctuary space does not have the average fixed pews, and has instead theatre style seating, which can also be found in other churches from the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries.

The church has a steeply pitched roof covered in asphalt shingles. On the very peak of the roof, where all the sides meet, there is a long and narrow four-sided saddle back steeple. The main entrance is accessible through a large classical style overhang supported by two rectangular pillars. In the peak of this overhang is the name of the church written in bold white letters. The interior of the church resembles a theatre or concert hall more than a religious sanctuary.
