Historical Information

The early Baptists in the North Kingston area established their first church around 1800; prior to this, services were held in schoolhouses and private homes. In 1829 was the first organization of a church in the Aylesford Township, consisting of Lower Aylesford and Upper Wilmot. By 1872 the church had expanded and so it was divided into two churches, of which the South Aylesford section included Tremont, Kingston Village, Greenwood, Harmony, and North Kingston. By 1894 another division took place and the Kingston Baptist Church was organized.. From the time of its organization in 1894 until 1912 the Kingston Church was served by the Upper Aylesford Church and worship was held in the North Kingston Church. The North Kingston Church was given $300 to offset its share in all church property. In 1915 a new church was built in Kingston. By 1965, the North Kingston congregation was completely amalgamated with Kingston. The North Kingston church was sold in 1967 and was subsequently demolished.

This church was typical for its time in terms of style and is an early example of Gothic Revival style influenced architecture, with straight pointed gothic windows. Early examples of Gothic revival architecture have this type of straight pointed window, with later examples usually having a more rounded curve and point. This church is a prime example of a symmetrical church design with a three-bay front façade on the gable end. The steeple is set in a way that it protrudes forward from the main body of the structure, with a large, pointed window in the middle of the steeple and smaller pointed vents on all four sides of the top to allow the sound of the bell to carry. One of the most eye-catching features is the crown that sits on the top of the tower with four spires, one on each corner.

Along each side of the church there are four, large examples of this Gothic Revival style window. Originally this church would have had wood cladding or cedar shakes on the sides and the roof would have been covered in cedar shakes as well.
