Historical Information

In 1930, two ministers, Rev. J. B. Daggett and Dr. J. J. Sidey, came to Kingston and organized the Kingston Bible College. In 1933. The first building was constructed on land given by Amanda Baker. This building was later destroyed by fire in 1962. Early in 1934, the connection with the United Baptist denomination ended and the congregation was re-organized with and joined the Kingston, Melvern Square, and Lower Aylesford Baptist Churches in their pastorateMembers of the newly constituted body met for worship in the college building in Greenwood Village as well as Melvern Square and in Kingston.

On May 28th, 1962, a re-organization drew together the people of the three earlier congregations to form the Bible Baptist Church. A brick church was soon built, measuring about 80’ by 30’. This new facility is located on Bridge Street in the Village of Greenwood. Due to a growing congregation the church was expanded in 1971 with two new wings, designed to make the church form the shape of a cross.

The facility, built in 1962, is typical for its time in terms of style, with a low-pitched roof, and windows and the front entrance on the gable end. The most eye-catching feature of the building are the large glass panes on the front façade with the front entrance directly below them. The front of the building is broken into three bays, with large brick walls on either side. This building has large rectangular windows on the main level, with smaller windows directly below them on the basement level and ornamental steel set between these two windows. On the central structure, on the peak of the roof, there is a steel saddleback steeple, which appears to be original to the building in 1962. On this front façade there are also the words “Baptist Church” written in brass letters. On the right side of the building (South) there is a drive-thru carport, which appears to have been where the main entrance was and which allowed people to park behind the building.

This congregation changed its name to the Faith Baptist Church between 2014 and 2016. This was an independent Baptist =church. They have since closed in 2020. A congregation that was once part of this church is the Turning Point Baptist Church congregation, which left this facility in 2002.Turning Point Baptist Church appears to be an offshoot of Bible Baptist Church and to have the same history as Faith Baptist Church.
