Historical Information
Formerly known as Calvary Baptist Church, the congregation was formed in 1954, the same year that they built the structure that serves them (2021). This structure is a two-storey brick building with a low-pitched roof, and front entrance on the gable end. The building is now in the shape of an “L” because in 1967 the decision was made to add an addition onto the building to give more space to the growing congregation. On the front of the building is the entrance, covered by a small overhang and accessible by walking up a few stairs. On this front façade there are also five white vinyl windows. On the left façade there are five upper, white vinyl windows as well as some lower to the ground. These upper windows are for the main sanctuary and the ones closer to the ground are for the basement .
The building has black asphalt shingles and two heat pumps that supply heat and air conditioning. The addition on the right of the building has visible architectural detailings that were popular in the 1960’s, those being the stripes of decorative siding between the upper storey windows and the basement windows.
Since the formation of this congregation it has been independent and does not associate with Canadian Baptists of Atlantic Canada (CBAC).
In 2003, the decision was made to change the name of the congregation to Jones Lake Baptist Church, the name which the congregation and the structure currently (2021) go by. The reasoning for this name change is unknown.
