Historical Information

Before a church in Blue Mountain was built people are said to have worshipped in the local schoolhouse. The Blue Mountain Baptist Church first opened on Sunday, June 30, 1901. By 1924 church services were only held during summer months and the church congregation appears to have quickly dwindled away. Renovations were done in 1954, and the minister from Bethany Memorial Baptist Church in Aldershot served the church until Alton Baptist Church became self-sufficient. The Alton pastor continued pastoral care and occasional worship services at Blue Mountain until the concluding worship service on September 27, 2009. The church went up for sale in 2013 and was sold. Architecturally this church is unique; although small, the structure has many wooden architectural embellishments. This building is a one-story wooden structure with a steeply pitched side gable roof. On either side of the gable end is an entrance, as in many instances throughout Atlantic Canada, churches with this feature intended one door to be used for men and another for women. In the centre of the front façade is modified Gothic revival style window. Located on the ends and the peak of the roof are three ornate wooden finials.
