Historical Information
The church at Lawrencetown was founded as a result of the congregation of Nictaux United Baptist Church. In 1873 a number of congregants were dismissed from the congregation at Nictaux to start their own church in Lawrencetown. Upon completion the structure in Lawrencetown was dedicated in September of 1876. Although there was no official pastor of the church, Rev. Robert D. Porter provided pastoral leadership for the congregation from 1881 onward. In 1937, the church underwent extensive renovations. Unfortunately, the following year the church caught fire and burned. Within 15 months a new structure was completed and has since undergone renovations to include a gymnasium, classroom space, and a balcony.
