Historical Information
The first Baptist meeting house to be erected in Jordan Falls was built around 1860, to serve the Regular or Calvinist Baptists that formed August 14, 1854.
The current church was built around 1874 on land donated by Francis B. Holden. The church structure is a one and a half storey building that still includes many of its original architectural features. The tower is on the left side of the front and the ornate detailing's are gothic in style. The top of the steeple has a hipped roof with a decorative railing popular during the peak of the Victorian era. Pointed double arched openings on either side of the front of the church are topped with a rosette window below the peak, and there are three double arch windows along each side. Below the roof, on the front of the tower is a double arch, louvered vent with scalloped shingling. The entrance is in the tower under the gabled roofed archway. Above the double doors is a rounded rosette window. At the end of the building is a beautiful stained glass rosette window high in the peak. The sanctuary has three rows of pews divided by two aisles. At the far end of the room is a platform, surrounded by an altar rail, that holds the choir seated on chairs. In front of the platform is an ornate pulpit that was made for the church and donated by a member of the congregation. There is a pair of stained-glass lancet windows lower down on either side of the façade. In 2000 an extensive addition was added to the building on the rear; it contains Sunday School rooms, a nursery, and washrooms.
