Historical Information
The church record book from 1823-74, located at the Hampton Baptist Church, is entitled “Granville and Wilmot Mountain Church Book 1823”. This book, particularly its title, indicates that the church at Hampton grew and was established from the original congregation at Granville and Wilmot Mountain Church. After an initial split, church meetings that had been occurring at Chute’s Cove moved to Hampton under new pastoral leadership. Oral tradition suggests that construction of the building began in 1832 and finished in 1844.
