Historical Information

In 1983, the Guiding Light Baptist Church formed, as a break-away from the Shag Harbour United Baptist Church, with Michael Stone as their first pastor.

This congregation can trace its members' roots back to the First Shag Harbour Baptist Church, which was originally built in the mid-eighteenth century.

Soon after forming, the congregation decided to construct a building in 1984. This building was constructed by dedicated members of the congregation, and is rather plain in design. Due to the rocky soil in Shelburne County, this church does not have a basement. The building could be described as rather long, narrow, and set well off the road, away from the eyes of those passing by. This church has been altered very little from when it was constructed, except for the addition of a dedicated Christian Day School space in 2004, that matched the size and style of the main structure.

The interior features a lot of natural wood paneling, while the exterior of the building is covered in white vinyl siding.
