Historical Information
South West United Baptist Church was a daughter church of the Port Mouton Baptist Church congregation. Services in this region began at homes of the congregation and in the old schoolhouse (near Carter’s Beach, Central Port Mouton), as well as in the old schoolhouse in Burgess Shore. Gatherings started here in 1887, and later, at a cost of $711 their church was finished in 1902.
This church was rather plain and resembled the Port Mouton Baptist Church. The building had three classical rectangular windows on either side, with eyebrow dormers. The front façade on the gable end had three bays, with the tower centrally placed. Rather than the doorway being placed on the front of the tower, it was positioned on the right side. Positioned in the middle of the steeple was another classical style window with an eyebrow dormer. This structure is believed to have contained a bell. Originally this church was covered in wooden clad boards with wooden shingles on the roof and four-sided steeple.
Little is known about this church now, or if it is still in existence.
