Historical Information
The Lincoln Baptist Church was founded October 31, 1833, as a Freewill Baptist church and functioned as a part of a multi-point charge. Other points on that charge were New Maryland, Rusagonis, and Waasis. Waasis later amalgamated with Lincoln in the mid 1970’s. In the mid 1960’s, Lincoln Baptist built its first parsonage as part of its conversion to a single-point charge under Pastor Harry Branscombe. In 1972, the church moved from its original building, which is 1km from its present location. The old building was sold to what is now the local Lion’s Club. In 1973, one year later, the current parsonage was constructed adjacent to the church property. The church building was given a face-lift in 1993, and separate office facilities were added in 1994. The building located on the left on this church, in the photos, is not the parsonage, it is a utility shed. The parsonage for this church is not in the frame of the photos provided.
This church is typical for its time in terms of style and layout. This church is positioned far off the road, sideways, so it shows the sheer length of the structure. There are a lot of unique features on this building, not found on other churches in the region. The main body of the structure is designed in a way that the two ends of the building resemble the bow and stern of a ship or ark. Along the eaves, on the side facing the road =“Lincoln Baptist Church” is written in large bold letters. Centrally placed on this side is a large cross that spans the height of the building. There are five long and narrow windows on either side of the main structure.
On the left side of the building are the office facilities that were added in 1994. This section of the building is largely made up of glass and contains a street level main entrance to the building’s amenities.
