Historical Information

West Brooklyn Church was built by Brother Alfred MacIntosh, who had labored among these people five years. It was dedicated June 5th,1921. The dedication sermon was preached by Rev. E.S. Mason, who was the Superintendent for the Home Mission. The offering from this first service was around fifty dollars. The church was designed to hold about one hundred and fifty people. Eighteen automobiles and thirty-seven carriages were on the grounds of the church at the dedication. The church property and graveyard make up only half an acre; these automobiles and carriages filled the property to capacity. At this dedication service three hundred individuals were in attendance.

This church was originally a rather plain structure, with a steeple pitched roof and front entrance on the gable end. Three, plain wooden sash windows were located on either side of the building, with no windows on each gable end. A rather plain, low, four-sided steeple was positioned near the front of the roof, and originally contained a bell. Over the lifespan of this church, additions have been made to the front of the building (visible in photos 2 & 3). These additions changed the positioning of the doorway to be catty-cornered on the front right corner of the building. Located on the newest front addition is a circular window near the peak on the gable end and a new front door. In 1993 the congregation welcomed Rev Barbara Cochran, who succeeded her father the Rev. Owen Cochran, who was pastor from 1989 to 1993.
