Historical Information

The Birch Cove Baptist Church was established in 1959, when the congregation met in the basement of what is now their office building, adjacent to the current church structure. The first pastor to preach in this church was Rev. Ralph Galbraith until 1966. The pastor of the church since 1997 – present (2021) has been Rev. John Wilton.

The church was designed by Steven’s Architects based out of the Halifax Municipality, the same group that designed Stevens Road Baptist Church and Bayer’s Road Baptist Church, both also located in the Halifax Municipality.

The church is mid-century, modern in architectural design, a common design for its period. It contains an entrance on the gable end of the structure, and two walls of windows on the gable end. A small saddleback steeple was placed on the main part of the structure. The main section contains the sanctuary, stage, and gallery loft on the main floor;the side addition contains the main entrance. The basement contains classrooms and areas for Sunday school and daycare.
