Historical Information
The church building was erected in 1872-1873 on land that was purchased from James Glen and Margaret Talker Allen for five dollars. A deed for the land was registered on November 22, 1882 (it was common practice at the time for deeds to be registered much later), stipulating that the 80’x100’ piece of land was to hold a building for the use of the regular Close Communion Baptist Church of West Ragged Island. The first service was held in November 1874.
The building is a wood frame structure with a steeply pitched roof. It has a centre tower with a mansard style belfry and four hipped roof dormers. The three classical style windows along each side of the building are topped with arches. There are arched windows on each side of the tower on the front gable end, and one above the other on the front of the tower. At the back of the building is a small modern addition. The eaves on the church extend all the way to the walls of the tower.
In 2018 the building was sold to a private owner and the bell was removed by a former parishioner. As of 2018, there were plans to have the bell permanently installed on the grounds of the Osborne Cemetery by Spring 2019.
