Historical Information
Records indicate that a church body in Clementsvale existed as early as 1810, when, on May 12, a Baptist congregation was formed in the Township of Clements under the leadership of Pastor Israel Potter. This congregation met in the schoolhouse on Hessian Line, as well as at the Potter home. Later, in 1851, a piece of land was purchased for a formal church site. The building was constructed the following year. Upon completion the building was entitled “Union Bethel meetinghouse”. This building was remolded in 1900, adding an arched ceiling, balcony, and a tower. Later, in 1906, a bell was added to the tower. Renovations continued through 1978 adding a baptistry, new insulation and paneling in their sanctuary, as well as finishing the basement classrooms.
