Historical Information
The original Union Meeting House was built in 1859 on land deeded by Abraham Spinney. The first of many preachers at the Union Meeting House was Dr. Charles Tupper, who served from 1851-72. The Union Meeting House was intended for use by Methodists and Baptists. In 1947, the church was re-dedicated and renovated. Less than 20 years later, in 1962, the original Meeting House was demolished because of expansions taking place at the nearby CFB Greenwood. Greenwood Square Union Meeting House was built as a replacement structure in 1965, but was later sold for commercial use. The woods north of the were retained by the Trustees of Tremont United Baptist Church. Consequently, when the Tremont congregation decided it would be appropriate to re-establish a Baptist witness in Greenwood, in 2006 this area became the site for the New Beginnings Ministries.
