Historical Information

The Culloden Baptist Church, after 2 years of construction, was completed in 1877. This work took place under the careful supervision of deacons John Daley and John Ross. Timber for the project was cut from woodland owned by the church membership and hauled by ox teams. The beams were hand hewn and the timbers were mortised together using wood pins and wedges, no spikes or pins. Money was raised for the construction through women's quilting parties and fancy work and pie socials. Rev. Dykeman preached the first sermon in the new structure in 1877.
