Historical Information

Though the church would not form officially until later, as early as 1834 a small group of congregants met in West Dalhousie. The parent group for the church at West Dalhousie was Bridgetown. Rev. John Chase of Bridgetown held services at West Dalhousie from 1839-49. The church originally met in a structure that doubled as a school and public hall. The new church structure was finished and dedicated on May 10, 1895 under the pastoral leadership of F.M. Young. The deed, granted by Robert and Nancy Perry, was held by the trustees of the West Dalhousie United Baptist Church from 1976 onward. The structure shows Greek revival influence, with the front being to one side. Windows are long and rounded and arched, and the roof is steeply pitched and gabled. There is a cemetery to the rear of the structure.
