Historical Information
The Maugerville Baptist Church was built around 1900 in a symmetrical design, in the Gothic Revival style, originally with a three-bay façade on the gable end. This church has three Gothic Revival style windows on either side of the structure and has a centrally placed tower on the gable end. This church is rather plain in terms of style and architectural detailing and appears to have had additions and upgrades over the course of history. Some of the evident additions to the structure include a new finished basement and foundation, as well as a large one-and-a-half-storey addition that spans the whole width of the front façade. With this addition, some of the most striking features of the front façade have either been covered up or removed. This addition doubled the useable space on the main level of the church.
Some of the most striking features of this structure, besides the three Gothic Revival windows on either side, are the rectangular shaped tower has with vents on two sides to allow the sound of the bell to carry, plus a striking four-sided pointed cap on top of the tower. Another striking feature, that is not original to the structure, are the three Gothic Revival windows, centrally placed on the gable end of the new addition, directly above, and on either side of the entranceway.
This church originally was covered in wooden clad-boards or wooden shingles and the roof was covered in wooden shingles. However, now the building has been covered in white vinyl siding which covers some of the original architectural embellishments and features, plus the roof now is protected by black asphalt shingles.
