The Antigonish Baptist Church is an Independent Fundamental Baptist Church, not associated with the Canadian Baptists of Atlantic Canada (CBAC). It is the only Baptist church in the town of Antigonish. The building is ideally positioned on a back road, just off the main road through Antigonish, and has many vantage points for people to see while driving by.
This building has a medium pitched roof, much like those found on many other Baptist churches from this era. Given the age of the other buildings on the street, along with the architectural detailings of the church building, it is believed it was built between 1970 and 1990. The building is set up high on a hill, visible by traffic from three directions. The front of the building faces the corner of its road, visible to people driving up to it. The front of the building has a one-bay façade, with a centrally placed doorway and deck set up off the ground. Along each side of the building there are three windows for the sanctuary and three basement windows for a kitchen and recreational room. On the back of the building there is an exterior entrance for the basement and stainless steel letters attached to the façade that read “Antigonish Baptist Church.” This building has a cream-colored siding, a brown painted foundation, and brown shingles, all of which are believed to be original to the building.
The exterior of this building contains little to no architectural details on it. This is partly due to its age, design, and the fact that it is covered with vinyl siding. It is believed that this congregation formed on their own, without assistance from another Baptist congregation in the region. The most eye-catching feature of this building is the sign located on the back façade.
