Previous to 1873, occasionally Rev. Isaiah Wallace and others held meetings in the courthouse and in the home of Mr. Freeman Barteaux. In 1874, the few Baptists in the area built their own structure, later officially organizing a Baptist Church body on September 9 of the same year. At this time, Rev. T. A. Higgins was chosen to pastor the church. The church structure was officially dedicated November 15, 1874.

Since its original construction, an extension has been added to the rear of the building.
