Historical Information

In 1936, Onden Stairs was the pastor of a group that left the Louis Head Baptist Church. That same year they constructed this building as their place of worship. This building was unique because it had a false front façade, to make it appear larger and more ornate. This feature makes this church unique from others in Shelburne County and across Nova Scotia.

This front façade made the front of the building appear to have a curved roof line when it actually had an ordinary gable roof end behind it. The entry for this structure was in the center of the front, flanked by two long, narrow windows, with another above the door. Three of these windows were on either side of the building. The interior of the structure had pale painted plaster above wooden wainscoting. There were no pews in this church and parishioners were seated in chairs arranged in front of a low platform that held the pulpit.

In 1975, lightening hit the building, damaging a wall and the chimney. It was later sold to Mr. Ed Burtt who dismantled the building in 1998 after it was further destroyed by vandals.
