Historical Information
Located off Route 755, also known as the Richardson Road, approx. 330 meters north of the intersection with the Scott Road, there is an unmarked dirt road (Woodstock Road) on the western side of Route 755. The dirt road winds up over a hill. The property (NB Parcel ID# 15202112) is deeded to the "Baptist Church" and is 0.7 acre in size. At this property is the "old" cemetery and former location of the former Honeydale United Baptist Church. The property at the entrance along Route 755 was deeded from the Trustees of the United Baptist Church at Baillie to the Home Mission Board of the United Baptist Convention of the Maritime Provinces in 1928 and measures 0.86 acre in size. This second parcel was added as an expansion of the cemetery. The graves in the cemetery were transcribed in 1996 by Glenna Johnston who stated in 1996 that "there was once a Baptist Church there and the cemetery contains many graves where there are no stones".
The rural community of Honeydale is located in the parish of St. David in Charlotte County, New Brunswick. Established in the 1880s and known as "Meadows", it was renamed "Honeydale" around 1910. Honeydale has been settled primarily by the tight-knit families of McLaughlin and Scott.
The congregation of the Baptist Church in Honeydale declined with the establishment and rise of the Pentecostal Church in Honeydale in the 1940s through the 1980s. The cemetery is still used today by local families and is considered "non-denominational." There are over 60 known burials in the cemetery.
The former church was a striking feature in the rural landscape. It was somewhat typical of its time in terms of size and style. It featured a three-bay facade on the gable end, with a centrally placed tower. This building was more classical in design, evident in the use of long, slender, rectangular windows, both on the gable end, and eave-sides.
A striking feature of this building is that it was rather long, and featured four evenly placed windows on each side, rather than three, which was more commonly witnessed in Baptist church architecture. It is unknown when this building was destroyed, and what happened to the interior fixtures such as the bell.

Historical Information

Formed in 1896, the congregation of the Lamberts Cove soon constructed the building we see today (2022). This building is a very striking example of Gothic Revival architecture and has maintained much of its original architectural embellishments and features since its construction. The front façade of this structure is broken into three bays, with the tower centrally placed on the gable end. On each side of the tower there is a Gothic Revival style window, and above the centrally placed doorway there are two more of these windows, side-by-side. Just below the four-sided cap on the tower there is another set of these windows on three sides.

The roof of the building is steeply pitched and has ornate gingerbread mouldings along the eaves and gables. The steeple has the most ornate woodworking on it, and contains rounded cedar shakes, clade boards, corner pilaster boards and sawtooth boards.

On each side of the structure there are four more, larger Gothic Revival windows, original to the structure. On the rear of the building there has been a later addition, containing a vestry and kitchen area.

This church is in a shared pastorate with Fairhaven United Baptist Church and has services on alternating Sundays.

Historical Information

The church was founded in 1844 by Rev. William Carleton. The congregation consisted of 15 members. It is believed that the church met in homes and possibly the schoolhouse until the construction of the building in the 1860’s. The first permanent pastor of the church was Rev. Peter Malloch. Before Rev. Malloch arrived on Campobello Island and even for many years after he left, the church often struggled with finding permanent pastors. Despite these early struggles, the church survived and is still active today.

This church is typical for its time in terms of style. Like many country Baptist churches in Atlantic Canada, it was designed and built by local trades- and craftspeople. These workers most likely did not have any formal training constructing churches, but instead learned through working. This church has hints of the Gothic Revival style and is built in a symmetrical design, which is a bit unusual for churches of this period. Many churches from this period are built with an unsymmetrical design and in the Akron Plan.

Some of the most striking features of this building include the three-bay façade, with a centrally placed steeple, on the gable end. This church has maintained many of its original interior features including its pews. Its ornate stained-glass windows are also original to the structure, along with the bell in the belfry. One of the most striking features on the interior of the church are the walls that are still covered in the original, stained, wood panelling.

In the 1980’s an ‘L’ was added to the right side of the structure, containing a fellowship hall, bathrooms, pastor’s office and two meeting rooms.

This church is now covered in vinyl siding, with black asphalt shingles on the roof; however, originally it was covered in white wooden clad boards.

Historical Information
St. Andrews United Baptist Church is designated a Local Historic Place for its architecture and for its continual use as a place of worship.
St. Andrews United Baptist Church is recognized for its architecture. Built in 1865, it is an excellent example of Carpenter Gothic religious architecture in St. Andrews. The front façade consists of board and batten on a vernacular basilica plan. The church has four spires symmetrically placed extending above the front façade with twenty-four gable pediments decorating them. The other strong features of the Carpenter Gothic style are the battlement that runs along the slope of the roof and the gothic arched windows and door. In the 1990’s, the church dedicated a series of nine stained glass windows representing scenes from the life of Christ. This was planned under the guidance of Rev. Charles D. Thompson and designed and executed by P & B Stained Glass Studio of Saint John.
St. Andrews United Baptist Church is also recognized for being a place of continuous worship for more than 140 years. Its place in the religious history of St. Andrews dates back to its construction. At that time, Rev. T. W. Crawley was the minister. In the 2000’s, the church had an average weekly congregation of 100 parishioners.

Historical Information

On July 14, 1868, Elders William Brown and Freeman Babcock organized a Free Will Baptist Church in Fairhaven with nine members. Services were held in a schoolhouse until the church building was completed in 1884.

On November 13, 1904, Fairhaven voted unanimously to participate in the Maritime Baptist union, becoming Fairhaven United Baptist Church.

In 1927, a bell was donated by Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln Wentworth in memory of their daughter. The church bell was first rung on June 19 that year. In 1940, a solid oak pulpit was installed and dedicated.

In 1951 the church was moved from near the old cemetery to its present location on a lot that was donated. Twenty-seven feet were added to the church following the move, and while renovations took place, the church met in the Victoria Hall auditorium.

The first service in the newly renovated building was on December 30, 1951. A stained-glass window was installed and dedicated to Frank Wentworth in 1957.

A church baptistry was installed in 1968. Five memorial chairs made by Springhill Penal Institution were dedicated in 1974. In the winter of 1984-5, members redecorated the church interior, and in 1986 a photo directory was made. An outdoor ramp was installed in 2002, as well as an upstairs bathroom.

Combined services with Lambert’s Cove United Baptist Church occurred periodically up until 2018 when Fairhaven and Lambert’s Cove agreed to share services moving forward.
